04 5.9 engine replacement

I am replacing my engine, do I need to replace it with an engine from a 4x4 automatic or that makes it easier?

Should be able to use any year just make sure you use your ecm from yours as well as all the sensors and wireing harness...might have to swap injectors but check on that,

Which engine do you have? Need more info on your truck. 04 has an SO, HO 305/555 and the 325/600 HO engine.

So you have an 04.5. an engine from 04.5 to 07 will work. In the later model trucks you may have to the change over the rocker box, valve cover, and possibly the front cover.
