Replacement Engine

Im looking for input for an replacement engine for my dads 03 . The oil filter ruptured and lost all the oil and he said that the oil presure gauge never droped below its normal place btw this truck has 203000 miles on it now so the truck is sitting in the cummins shop in Houston waiting on some prices on replacement engine . Has any one put a rv275 in a 3rd gen ? Just trying to figure the best way to go with it.

Just curious, what was the oil filter brand? Did your Dad contact the filter manufacturer?

I'd definitely be contacting that filter manufacturer as allready posted!!! They should be on the hook.

Of course they are likely going to tell you that it was installed incorrectly or maybe the oil pressure spiked and caused "abnormal pressure" and bursted the filter. Was it the filter itself or the gasket that failed???

My afther had a VW diesel and had the oil changed at a local shop, next day he is leaving for work, going out the driveway leaving a trail of oil all over the place! Stop, see it's leaking around the filter gasket, curse, tighten filter, add more oil. Start it up again and the filter burst!

Turns out the Oil pump pressure relief failed and caused the problem. had to replace the oil pump.

It is a baldwin filter havent contacted yet just finding out all of this as the day goes on. The place that changed the oil might have tightned it to tight and have put a wrinkle in we are not sure yet. but cummins did say that it would be really hard to get them to do anything about it.

I would buy an engine off of ebay or from a scrap yard.
There is alot of used parts websites out there.
Infact there is a couple of junk yard national websites that probably have the exact engine you want.

I hope you kept the reciept for the oil change. Somebody's on the hook for that one. The repair shop should have insurance for those types of misshaps, and the filter manufacturer should be involved too. Probably the proceedure you should follow is go after the repair shop and let them go after the filter co. It's not your responsibility to prove who is at fault or what went wrong, other than you lost your oil and ruined the eng. If the shop balks at your eng replacement, get an attourney to explain things to them.

I'm going to strongly agree with Hemi Cat. Make sure they pay the legal fees also.

Well at this point it looks like the oil change place fault . the filter has a split where the teeth marks where they tightned it up so much that the filter wrench dug into the metalso if thats the case its just a matter of getting them to pay for a new engine

They have a garage liability insurance for those kind of mishaps.

200k on a 03?
Did you turn it off long enough for an oil change?
