2006 48RE Dead...Please Help
My dad has a 2006 with the 48RE and recently had a valve body put in. He drove 1000 miles when his tranny felt luggish then died. He checked the fluid at that point and the fluid was way over the full line on the stick. He got home and checked his invoice from the VB install and the guy charged him for 2 gallons of ATF. Obviously it was overfilled!! Could that have caused his tranny to quit and if so, should there be some serious damage? He called a couple tranny shops and they told him overfilling the tranny wouldn't hurt anything??? BTW it's stock besides a Smarty Jr.
Well 2 gallons of fluid is only 8 QTS. If the tranny was completely emptied, along with the TC. That shouldn't of overfilled it.
When you say dead, what exactly do you mean by that? Truck doesn't move it all? Was a brand new VB installed or did he just have his original one rebuild? Could be something simple as having debris stuck someone in the VB or the solenoids could of went out.
Is he checking the fluid in the trans when the truck is in neutral?

Sorry it was a rebuilt VB. The pan was the only thing emptied so it's about 2qts too full. I'm starting to think it is clogged with debris now. He checked it in neutral and by dead I mean no power being transferred to the wheels just revs. Gonna drop the pan and see if there's any junk in there tomorrow.
UPDATE: The truck will move forward when cold but as soon as the trsnny warms up a little it won't go. So maybe a bad VB or solenoid?? Will have the pan dropped tomorrow.
Also, there was no sign of something breaking inside the tranny. No noises, nothing it just quit.

It very well could be some debris in the VB or something not installed right. Has he had any contact with the person who rebuild it?
I'm not saying this is the issue. But from what your describing it sounds alot like my situation when my solenoids quit. Engine would rev up real high and I could hardly move. Some days it would work flawless and other days I couldn't pull my self out of a wet paper bag. It usually work well when it was cold, when it was hot that's when I would encounter the issue.

Okay the pan was dropped and there was no metal in the pan just some dark sludge kinda like the crap around the magnet. Anyway, my dad has this guy next to our shop swapping out the solenoid and he thinks the clutches are out from driving the truck couple hundred feet with no pressure, can this be true??

Whole different chemistry (friction modifiers). I wouldn't mention that he installed the wrong fluid. Take it back to him and tell him that since he worked on it, it was never the same. Make sure you got the receipt showing what fluid he used and how much in case he tries to blame you for the damage.
