03 Straight Pipe?

Anybody straight-piped an '03? How's the sound? Very different from the second-gen 24valvers? I've heard conflicting reports. Thanks.
Chris

Re:03 Straight Pipe?

The reason for the quieter engine was just that, A QUIETER ENGINE. I was hoping that the new Dodge pickups would stay quiet so I wouldn't have to hear yall driving around like big rigs in my neighborhood. Grow up Dodge guys, ditch the noise pollution.

What? A diesel was meant to be loud. and loud it should be. The quietness is the only thing i don't like about the new ones. By the way i havent heard a 03 straight but everyone has told me that they sound awesome.

Re:03 Straight Pipe?

Why would a diesel be meant to be loud? I mean, when the manufacturers build a vehicle, they balance a lot of factors - fuel economy, horsepower, torque, and so forth - noise is a minor factor but there's no manufacturer out there who'd deliberately make a loud engine. They tick off the neighbors - and the only reason my wife agreed to mine is 'cause she heard how quiet the new '03's are. While a few people will be decrying the loss of noise (and they are welcome to straight-pipe all they want), methinks the quietness of the new Cummins (and Duramax's and PowerStrokes) can only help diesel sales.

Re:03 Straight Pipe?

I agree with it being quiet.

I have changed the exhaust on my previous cars and trucks but always for performace and never to become loud.

The coolest exahaust I have ever seen is the one on my vette from Corsa. IT has exceptional flow, its a little loud at WOT but quiet at cruise and idle.

There nothing worse then annoying neighbors or yourself with some loud droning noise.

I have heard them straight piped. I can't say I like it better than the 24v SP. My fav. is still my 12v SP. The 03 kinda sounds like a big rice rocket. :'( Thats what it sounds like to me.

Re:03 Straight Pipe?

My wife loves the way our 03 sounds. She did not like any others- 00-01-02, or Ford or Chevy. NOW< I have 85 Suburban with dual 2-1/2'' glass packs (sans glass!) That is SOUND! (Sets off all the rice burner's car alarms for blocks arround!) Waiting for Jacob's from dealer, wonder if any changes to come?
