What do you think about this 01?

Ok, back again

Been trying to get a Cummins for some time now.

Had an 03 all lined up and the deal fell through

Now, looking at an 01.

This a Short box Quad cab 4x4 6 speed. Only has 32,000 miles on it. Inside and underhood is mint and very clean. The body is so so. The rocker panels and behind the rear tires have almost no paint. All rock chipped. Tailgate is like swiss cheese. Not a square inch without a chip. A few scratches on the hood and side but no dents.

But the truck is priced at $24900. Which is not bad. The kicker is that they are willing to give $25,900 for my 04 GMC 1/2 ton. Other dealerships only quoted me at $20,500-22,000.

So, it is a steal.

Was thinking spend the $1000 and get the lower part of the truck rhinolined or Line X or whatever. Was thinking silver on the bottom, since the truck is marroon.

Drove the truck and it is tight. Had it up to 95 MPH and no problems. It is not a 53 block. Checked that. Does have 4 wheel disc. Doesn't have limited slip unfortunately. So I will have to get that installed. Has 3.55 gears. Infinity CD and Cassette. Overhead console, power windows and locks, step bars and brake controller.

Does have a 5th wheel ball in it.

What do you think about the deal. Should I take the money and fix it up a bit or should I spend more money and find a truck with a better body?

I can live with the few scratches and I think Rhino liner on the bottom would look pretty good.

Needs some tires, but I would like to put some 285s on anyways. Was thinkin about trying to talk them into throwing tires on.

I say go for it. If you feel confident about the mechanical shape, and can live with the body/fix it up a little, you won't be sorry. It appears it has been driven on a lot of gravel roads. You can put a rubberized rocker coating on there that is compatible with regular paint, and then paint it the color of your choice, even matching the existing paint if you like.
You can get another tailgate, probably in the same color, with a little patience, and this link: http://www.car-part.com.
NADA says average retail is 24,775, and average trade-in is 21,700. Since they are giving you so much for the Chebby, I'd jump on it with both feet.

Talking

I Just bought mine almost 1 and a half monthe ago and love it. Paid $21000 for a 01, quad cab 2500 2wd CTD H.O. 6 spd with all the bells and whistles,Trailer PKG, LMTD Slip, 4.10s in the rear. Even had a hide hitch goose neck in it with a bed liner, alloy wheels with brand new 265/75/16Es on em. 64000 miles and it runs like a top. no damage to body at all (one small hail dent in hood)and a clean carfax report on it.
Course it didn't take me long to start in on it. Straight pipe, BHAF, MIA Silencer Ring, Tinted the windows and now looking for new injectors and a Edge EZ or a Van Akins box. Love the way this thing pulls and sounds when under a load. The fuel millage is great 16-17 Daily, 22 on highway and thats at the pump not the overhead Comp.
Only thing I dont have is heated leather seats or power mirrors because of the trailer mirrors.

Went back and drove it again.

Really like the truck.

Got 20 MPG on my 30 minute or so test drive.

Tried to get some new tires out of them but couldn't. Started the financing and I hope to get it next week.

Went to about 6 other dealers and no one could touch this deal. So, I think I am going to take advantage of it.

Whats a good interest rate now days?

I plan on just Rhino lining the bottom and box and rails. Probably repaint or replace the tailgate.

New tires are in order before winter. Thinkin 285/75R16. Not sure what brand.

Probably go mild and get a 4" exhaust and Scotty II and a VanAaken box. And Gauges of course.

Make them check the fuel pressure before you buy it. If less than 8 psi at any time it needs to be replaced. Install a fuel pressure gauge immediately after your purchase. Your injector pump will thank you by not failing.
