so you think you have snow...

Posted by David Yetman, Labrador Straits Development Corp. (Zone 5), 23-Apr-03 4:07 pm
The Trans-Labrador Highway has become a nightmare for winter
travelers. The road has been blocked on several occasions this year leaving Glenn's Corporation
(contract holder) with more headaches than he has equipment. Besides the challenge of keeping the
road clear, the once proud link to Cartwright has now become a cow path, hazardous to drive and
difficult to navigate. The Department of Works, Services and Transportation are doing their best to
keep it clear, hiring additional businesses to help, however its crystal clear that when old man winter
strikes hard, as it has this year, then heavy equipment is no match. Even the paved road from Red Bay
to Pinware was blocked for the first time (in a long time) for three full days (see picture). The Labrador
Straits Development Corporation is meeting with the minister of WST this Friday to discuss the issue;
one of many that's pressing I suspect.

this was a cut and paste from an email I had received. I would post a link if I can find it...

in fact, this would directly correlate to the global warming theory. Theory it is though, just a guess.

I think it was gonna snow like that here yesterday, but it changed its mind and decided to be sunny and 72 instead.

Today's predicted high.....44 degrees. Gotta love this state. Gorgeous and 72 one day....cloudy and low 40's the next. Supposed to get down to 26 tonight, and then be back in the high 60's late in the week.

Back in fall of 99 I was in Reno/Tahoe area - was wondering why all of the markers on the side of the road were added on to make them about 12 feet tall. A local guy informed me that in 98 they had so much snow that the snow thrower trucks couldn't see the markers and that they lost four or five throwers over the edge. They had to extend the markers to give the guys some guidance.

Heck, we have 2 inches of snow and a half inch of ice on top here in central NC right now - more than enough for me and my truck to be snuggled in at home. My wife spent 4 years in Alaska, some of that time driving big rigs. Some of the stories she can tell.......
