Trailer brake controller install question

I just bought a 2000 Dodge 2500 and I was going to install a brake controller. The truck has the blue plug under the dash and I have the harness for it. My question is is it just plug and play or am I going to have to run the power wire and the wire going to the trailer plug?

Yes, it's plug and play. That connector has everything you need. My connector is blue as well on my 2001.

What brake controller did you get?

I've had a Tekonsha voyager that I took out of another truck that I had before I sold it. I'm sure it's not the greatest, but it will work for now. I'm to broke to buy a good one, but I have heard that the max brake is one of the best ones.

Max brake is one of the best, I have one in my truck. Unfortunately, the company decided to stop making them and got out of that business altogether.

Your Voyager is a proportional type controller. It is way better than the cheap time delay type controllers.

Well it's installed, now I just have to test it and see if it's working. I had to use an online diagram of the controller to wire it up and the only wire that matches both is the blue one.

Well I just rewired the trailer plug, it had a broken pin in it, now the green led for the controller stays on constantly, so now I'm thinking that I have to run a wire from the blue wire to the plug, which will be fine, just more work than I really wanted to put into it.

Finally got the thing fixed. The plug in had happened to have led test lights on it and I made the controller think that there was a trailer hooked up, changed that out to one without the test lights and the led only comes on with a trailer hooked up
