Cool Speedo quit on me

I own a 94 cummins 4x4 and for whatever reason the speedo stopped dead in its tracks. Every once in awhile the odometer will kick in but only for short periods of time. Anyone have any answers to this problem?

Thanks,
Brian

I'm not sure if your speedo is electronic or not. but try hitting the dash right above the speedo. this works on my truck.

When my speedo quit the abs light came on also. Turns out there is a sensor in the rear differental that controlles both. I think it was about 30$ at dodge and it fixed mine.

I don't know for sure, but I think the speedo is hooked up to the transfer case, not the rear diff, and a replacement gear thing is about $30.

I tried banging on the dash and that didn't work so I will spend the 30.00 on the sensor.. Thanks for your help.

unless I am badly mistaken, 94-98.5 speedo ran off of a gear in the trans tailshaft, and the speedo gear drove a speed sensor. One screw holds it in place, and three wires go into it. 5 minute job, at most. Hope this helps. Good luck
