rear sway bar

for those of you who have them, what difference does it make in ride?
I know some years came with them, does it just soften the body roll?

I don't know if it changes the ride, but my truck rides stiff. They should help with body roll though. That is what they were designed for. I have them on my truck, but didn't have them on my previous 3/4 Dodge. My truck doesn't have much body roll, but the other one didn't either after adding the Bilstien shocks.

A friend of mine took his off his '02 2500 Dodge for more axle travel when offroad. He said when he drove it on the road there was alot of body roll without the rear sway bar installed. With the sway bar installed he could take a normal 55 mph curve with ease, but when he took the sway bar off, he had to take that same curve at below 35 mph because of the body roll. Needless to say he has since installed them back on his truck.

Mine's been disconnected since about a month after I bought the truck. It didn't make much difference in the ride, but it made the rear end step out badly if I hit a bump in the middle of a curve. By "badly" I mean quite a bit worse than you might normally expect from a solid axle truck, anyway.

This is pothole country, and I like to be able to keep the dang thing on the road...

The rear sway bar makes the truck handle more nuetral,Remove it you will have more understeer.Add a larger rear bar you will be heading towards oversteer.

Disconnecting the sway bar is a lot cheaper.

I've got a 01 with a rear sway bar and i haul an camper in the box and I don't have much body roll when the camper is on. but my ride is rough on potholes and frost heaves. My dad has a 02 with no rear sway bar and i think he has litter springs than me, his truck rides a little nicer than mine but i don't think theres a big differnece in body between his and mine when were empty, i'm sure if he had a box camper there would be a big differnce
