brake dust shields

Are the dust shields necessary on the front brakes? I have mine apart and both are rusted and falling apart. I have not found an aftermarket supply for them and hate going to the dealer. If they arent needed, would I still to add a spacer in their place to keep the clearences as they need to be?

Does anyone have a supplier of the dust shields?

Thanks for the help.

I've heard of lots of people running without the shields but you have to figure the way that Dodge
tries to shave off every penny of cost building a vehicle that there must be a reason for them.

check with www. rockauto.com or with www.lmctruck.com pending your driving and where your driving does make a difference on running the dust shields or not. your wheels will get dirty quicker. but should not be a problem to not run them.
