Brake shields

Noticed on a 05 dually there is some kind of aluminum shield over the rear brakes. about 5"x1" if i remember correctly. my 04.5 doesn't though.

is it some kind of upgrade to keep gravel damage down?

i have heard of duys doing $1000 worth of damage to the brakes in deep mud, (oilfield) and this truck of mine will see the same conditions soon. Has any one else heard or seen the of these shields.

The dealer my brother goes to is recommending everyone put them on. He had his truck in for some other service, and had them put them on at the same time.($75 Canadian.)

I took mine off in front.. If anything, they cause MORE damage in mud.

Havent got around to inspecting my 2001, but my CJ had 'em. I got sick of pulling pebbles, sticks, etc. out, so I pulled them off.

Exactly. I pulled mine off, but be prepared with tin snips. The only way to remove them without having to cut a small (3/16" wide) strip is to remove the ABS sensor, something I didn't want to do, so I just *snipped* and into the trash they went.
