Radiator drain plug issues

Had to replace the thermostat today, so step one is to drain the radiator. No problem there, been there, done that. When I screwed the petcock back, it would just turn and turn. It does not appear to leak, I have not filled the radiator yet, but it doesn't seem right that it would feel like it stripped. I pulled it out to check it, it looks fine, but it won't get tight. Normal? Man I would sure hate to have it fail on the open road. Thanks.

Make sure you are pushing it in far enough to catch the threaded ridge. Try pushing it in and turning it the wrong way, it may cog into position and then tighten it up. Just my .02

There was problems on the drain plugs on certain years of 2nd gens, The dealers wouldn't let there mechanics use the plugs They had to pull a hose. Problem was if you used the plug and it did go back in it was likey to strip out and down the road it would blow out. The fix after that was to install a new rad. If you have a problem with yours maybe try a farmer fix like silicone or jb weld not that its the best way but it may work

This is my third radiator, not too interested in a fourth. This plug is different than the other ones, which were more like a oil pan drain plug, it looked like pipe threads. This one is doesn't have traditional threads at all, it looks like a 1/2 turn is all it needs to completely seat itself. I will do more checking on this, but the last thing I need is to be constantly worried that the plug will blow out. Not good.
Another 1 hour job morphing into a epic.
