Oil pressure gauge

2oo1 oil pressure gauge is stuck at 40psi with key on or engine running. Unplug sending unit and gauge reads Zero. Self-diag on cluster is good. Suspect oil sender but at $180. want to be sure first. Any help?

It's the sender. They are known to go bad every now and again. I'd check it with a mechanical gauge first just to be sure.

Just put in a -5 aeroquip hose to the plug in the oil filter housing . The plug in on top towards engine. A mechanical gauge and hose will be about $50.00. If you need a line made I can make it and mail it to you, just measure what you want.

$50!!!!!!!
More like $15, all you need is a grease gun hose, a 1/8" pipe coupling (or bell reducer depending on the size thread on the gauge) and a $7 100 psi pressure gauge.
The grease gun hose is the same thread as the port on top of the oil filter housing.
Just screw the hose in with the gauge at the other end.

If you need a new sender buy it from Cummins for half the dealer's price.
Avoid autoparts generic senders, they don't last.

Thanks for the info. I suspected the sending unit and tested the oil # with a gauge at the filter port and all is good. At $180 for a sending unit i may just leave it at showing 40 lbs for a while. When you said buy from Cummins is it a dealer or can you do it on-line

I'm not sure if you get one online but most Cummins dealers will sell to you over the phone with a credit card and UPS it to you.
