No Instrument Lights

Some time ago the instrument lights went out on my '02 2500 CTD. Using the wheel on the dash dims the odometer and stereo lights, but the main instrument lights don't come on at all. I've checked all the fuses and all are good, pulled the instrument cluster and checked all bulbs, and all are good, too. Parking, head, tail, turn....all work fine. When I turn the ignition on, all warning lights operate normally.

I have this sneaking suspicion that there's a control somewhere that I'm forgetting. If so, where is it ?? If not, what should I check for next ??

Thank y'all.............

Lar.

Do your park lights work? if they dont the instrument cluster lights wont. I'd get a wiring diagram and test the headlight switch to see what feeds the inst lights

Just had that happen to me. The wire that dims the factory radio shorted out and burned up the headlight switch. Sounds like your switch is burned up.

I've got the factory radio, the big one, and it dims along with the odometer lights. Everything else works fine except for the main instrument lights. Can't see speedo or tach at night.

I'll second the headlight switch. I just replaced mine due to the melted plug where the dash wiring goes into it.

Thanks for the replies. I tried to get to the switch on the steering column today and can't get the upper and lower halves of the housing separated. Pulled pretty hard and I'm afraid of breaking something. Don't see any tabs to press. Any tips ?? Thanks
