I have a 99 2500 4x4 auto that makes a whinning/grinding sound when accelerating thourgh a turn and the brakes sound similar to a semis when stopping is this normal or is something going bad that needs replaced any info would be greatly apprciaited

Make sure you don't have bearing problems either. Jack up front wheel spin it see if any grinding noise. Grab tire top and bottom or side to side pull one side of tire and push on the other side. shouldn't be to much play in the movement and there shouldn't be any unusual sounds.

ok the sound is specifically when accelerating at colder temperatures does it at all temperatures but when colder its worse no smoke just like maybe light grinding i do not think it needs brak pads though doesnt appear too also when backing up after sitting a good while i get some like jerkyiness in the transmission maybe steering im not real sure my first deisel please any answeres would be appriciated.
After you have put some miles on the truck feel the hubs to see if they are hot. If you have a problem in the bearings they should be to hot to touch. I would still put my bets on something in the differntial going on you. I guess the other possibility barring heat in the hubs is the front u-joints may be ready for a change.
