Mileage Question
Hi all,
I am new to the Dodge truck and CTD world. I am looking to purchase a used 2nd gen truck. I really want to purchase a 12v engine but need a quad cab so finding a 98 12v quad is very difficult. I am looking to purchase a QC, LWB, 4x4, 2500. I am trying to stay around 12,000 price range.
I have found one I like, its a 98 24v with 165,000. Is this too many for miles?
Can you all enlighten me on what type of mileage I should look for. Is there a mileage cutoff to try and stay away from when buying a used CTD? What about years also. I know that 98 was the first year of the 24v. Are there any specific quirks with the first year or two?
It is not going to be an everyday vehicle. I will be towing a Jeep on a trailer once or twice a month.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think if I were you i would hold out for the 12v.Its not the engine youve gotta worry about, its the auto trannies and the wheelbearings, balljoints etc in these trucks

Thanks for the replies!
kelownadiesel, is your 97 a reg cab or a club cab? If its a club, how hard is it to get in the back? Like I said before, I was interested in a 12v, but have a little one that would sit in the back.

Here is the vehicle I am looking at. I am not too worried about price, cuz I know it will be nego.
Edmunds.com appraises it at 9000 and kbb at 13000.
What do you guys think its worth?

Very nice. I just bought a 98', paid 11k for it. It's in really great shape, but yours has a nice brush guard on the front and nicer wheels. Also less mileage, mine had 228k.
I think that's not bad, especially if it's a 12v. The 98 12v seems to be the most sought after.

I have a 97 Club Cab. I also have 2 daughters, ages 11 and 3. Neither has a problem getting into the back seat. The 3 year old's car seat is in the center and she is able to get into it and buckle herself in on her own. I just lift her into the truck. I think it would only be an issue with very small children that need assistance getting into the car seat and buckled in.

As for mileage, I would look more at the overall condition of the truck and how it was used than simply how many miles are on it. I would probably try to stay under 200k for a 12v for my own inexplicable reasons. I passed up a 1997 2500 CC with 164,000 miles that was used as a ranch truck in Montana and showed it and ultimately purchased a 1997 CC with 181,000 miles that was a clean, virtually 1 owner local truck.
