Lack of dealer prep??
2001 2500 4x4 70K and new ball joints are needed. IMAGINE THAT ON A DODGE
I did the work myself, and noticed when the top BJ were removed that there was no grease (never had been) in the joints. This problem (bad ball joints, along with noted play in the steering gear) were brought to my attention late last fall by the dealer. Their comment at the time was that the BJ's had no grease fittings. Is this worth persuring with the dealer? Has anyone else noticed no grease in their joints? I'm thinking the lack up grease in the upper cause premature failure of the lower BJ and the steering gear. ANy comments?
Thanks

My upper BJ's have grease fittings, but mine is a 2000 so it may be differant.
What exactly would you complain to the dealer about?
The fact that the factory equipped the truck with sealed bj's or the fact that the dealer didn't find a way to grease them?

i just went through the smae thing with a dealer a few months ago i bought my truck then 2 weeks later it needed ball joints. the dealer wil not repace everyone just the one they think are bad so if you want to be sure then install new ones with grease fittings and be on your way its not worth the hassle especally since you are already done with the install IMO

So Moog or whoever builds the balljoints for DC does not put grease fittings in (as probably spec'ed by DC) but the dealer should find a way to grease them?? So the dealer is responsible for a poor design? How the hell can this be blamed on the dealership?? And they are branded a bad dealer by some???
I need to be more concise in my writing,
. The upper BJ did have grease fittings (from the factory) but had not been serviced.
Should I not expect, the dealer, to prep the truck for use?
The service department did tell me there were no grease fittings on the BJ's.

If the truck had grease fittings and the owner asked for grease front end when he had service done at the dealership then by all means you can go after them for it. But some people ask only for oil/filter change no grease. Gotta find out.
If you look at my sig you will notice that 96 and 02 Dodge Trucks... Believe it or not but both truck have grease-able upper BJ but none on the bottom BJ... Hmmm... Strange design...
All U Joint are sealed too... No grease fittings... But the 96 Dodge is still running strong...
I'm used to my ol' 70's truck and cars that if it had a joint that moved it had a grease fitting... But that is just me...

I'm wondering if mine have been replaced before.
Or did some of them come from the factory with grease fittings on the upper BJ's?

My 1997 has no fittings on the ball joints but fittings on everything else.
The 2000 is the one I'm having steering problems with.
