ideas as in...where to look next...please

ok...so the over head console comes on and turns off on its own now...sometimes when i start the truck it is on and it will die out when ever it chooes to..or other times it wont be on when i start the truck and then just comes on while driving down the road....i know it isnt the digital lights cuz it does come on...i checked the plugs at the light switch..even opened it up and made sure the little copper things were making contact...i checked the actual over head console to make sure it was pluged in..obviouly i checked the fuzes...i cant figure it out where else should i check

any new idea's would be great even it it just an idea something to keep my mind thinking

thanks

Does the overhead have just a 12v source to make it come on?? If so, try runnin a new switched 12v source to it to eliminate faulty power source. Just a thought.

Maybe the door light switch driver or passengerside. I haven't heard of them breaking before but you never know. You can try disconnecting the switches and see if the light continues to turn on and off at will. Personally that's the very first change i made to my truck. I disconnected the driverside switch because i hate hearing that beeping when i have the key in the ignition with the door open listening to the radio, which for me is all the time. And if I need light at night i just tap the light on.

I don't think it's the 12 volt source wire. There's a bad switch somewhere applying power to the bulbs when they should be off.

Whatever you find let me know via this thread or a pm. I'm always curious of the outcome and more often then not i never get to find out.

He said the overhead console turns off and on, not the lights.

Well, I'm assuming he means the read-out (compass and therm.) and not the lights.

pull the overhead and check the red wire going into the comp. Mine came a lil loose and the comp would reset and turn on and off on its own. The wires usualy pull out of the plug and need to be forced into the plug a lil more firmly.

yea that is what i am refering to....and this problem is isolated to the readout on the O.H.C the LIGHTS work fine...as for the wiring above i will pull that out and check the "red" wire..whar is leading you to the red wire...just the fact that red usually means 12v+..my display never resets...when i comes on it displays what ever was last up there...the odo..is right in sink with the dash odo. if is so happens to be of the fuel levels it may have made an adjustment to my diriving habbits or not...so i guess i will check the "red" wire specifficaly but i doubt it...

btw...it didnt come one this morining from start-up to arrival at the JOB....
