High Beam + Low Beam

Trying to keep my low beams on all the time. I cross wired the violet/white wire to the light green ( more like a yellowish green). It works except when I release the HB/LB lever there is a loss of intensity. And the lights are not all that bright anyway.

Save the trouble and buy a brite box. Its a great product that installs in minutes.

Instead of spending $100+ for a Brite Box I used a $.25 3M splice under the steering wheel. Has worked well for about three years now.

That's what I did. And it worked fine for at least a year then the other day I noticed when I released the HB/LB leaver ( after flicking on the high beam) there was a loss of intensity.

Installed relays to take stress off switch? Most vehicles need them...my 85 300SD, 78Zcar, & 00 Ram. Too bad factory didn't save us the trouble.

get a relayed harness from lmc truck or daniel stern. once this is installed you will have an unused factory headlight socket - then just jump the high and low pins with a one way diode. this is the safest and easiest way as it is all plug and play - no tampering with factory wiring beyond the sockets themselves.

the relayed harness will also net you some light output improvement.

I use a $5 relay behind the driver's side headlight to trigger hi and lows at the same time.
The Dodge wiring is cheap, seems like they were trying to save 10¢ by using the minimum wire gauge and switch ratings they could get away with.
I'd be afraid of melting things down trying to force more juice though them.

oldblues is actually who i learned the trick from. it worked like a charm, but i had aftermarket headlights at the time which used the reflectors to direct the light - and the bulbs were partially covered/tucked inside a little capsule to force the light onto the reflectors. therefore, the heat from the bulb had very little room to dissipate and ended up blowing the bulb into pieces inside the housing. the stock housing should be no problem though, there is plenty of air surrounding the bulb.

just a word of caution for you if you are using aftermarket housings . . .

I made my own relay system before I did the Hi/Low splice, if anything it supply's more power to the bulb and i would think make it hotter. And as I said, it has been working for about three years now.

I tried the wiring harness (got a "look a -like" from Summit). It self destructed in about a year ( both the relays and the bulb holders). Could one of you all diagram a relay install. As I said the wires are crossed. But when I release the high/low beam lever the lights dim a little. If I hold it back towards me they stay bright.

As mentioned in post # 6 Try this site: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ys/relays.html Good information and gives a relay diagram and good price for relay kit.
