Question High beam indicator light on dash

I have a 2001 ram that I removed my day time running light module from. Everything works as before except the day time running lights and the high beam indicator light on the instrument panel. I don't want the day time running lights, but I do want the high beam indicator to work. I tried jumping the two middle pins that used to plug into the drl module to and from the high beams but that didn't work either. Does anyone know how I can get the indicator to work again without the drl module? Thanks.

Nope, I don't know. When DRL module went south on my 98.5 the high beam indicator didn't work either. I replaced the module and all was fine. The DRL module did not affect the high bean indicator on my 94, though.

By the way, how come you don't want daytime running lights?

I don't mind day time running lights, they are safer. But I had to get rid of them when I rewired my head lights and used relays to give full power to the bulbs. What a difference in light output! The same bulbs I had before, with the stock wires are now much whiter and brighter! Well worth the effort.

DTRL switches the high beam indicator bulb on. It is a computer switched ground circuit rather than a switched hot circuit like the older (94) years.

Well that explains the 3 or 4 grounding wires going to the module. I guess now all you need to do is get a relay and ground out the pin for the High beam??

I am going to try that one.. Firstly through my DVM...LOL.. I would rather blow the fuse in my DVM than burn the dash...

Never thought of that... (I love this place)

Heres the skinny.

Well I looked through my manual and various ones on the net to make sure the Hi beam indicator is a bulb, not LED.

So after poking around on the harness I found out that the pin layout on the diagram I posted are incorrect, at least for my year of truck.

The wire color description is correct on the drawing, just not the pin locations. Pins #1 and #4 are the two to jumper on my rig.

The red/blue 20ga wire (hi beam indicator) was in position 4 and the red/orange 16ga (hi beam power feed) is in position #1. I test jumpered the two and with a 0.26amp draw the lite works in the dash.

My fix was (and the electrical gurus will cringe) to hollow out the dead side of a scotchlok wire splicer. I pulled the two offending wires out of the loom about 1" back from the plug and slid both wires into the scotchlok. BAM... indicator lite...

I hope this helps RR...
