Headlight Aiming

After installing the 2.5" front end lift from skyjacker, I need to readjust my headlights. Somewhere I have seen a guide that shows where properly aligned lights should hit on a wall when the vehicle is parked at a certain distance from that wall, I just can't remember where I've seen this guide.
Any help is appreciated.

Rob

Re:Headlight Aiming

I think those guides are going to be vehicle-specific; the number is going to be very different for a tall truck than for say a Honda Civic or other low-riding car. I once adjusted a car to the guide, and didn't like the results. What I do now is find a wall, make an initial adjustment (down in your case). Then drive around at night, trying both dims and brights. If you like it, leave it; if you don't, tweak and drive around a few more minutes. Repeat as necessary.

Step two of the process: Be alert for folks "flashing" you at night requesting you to dim your lights when you are already on dim. If this happens more than once, it is a sure sign you need to aim down another turn or two.

Final note: With a tall truck, if you pull up behind someone at night at a stoplight, turn off your headlights and turn on your fog-lights, at least until away from the light. There's already enough folks who hate big trucks and SUV's, I don't need to add to their numbers.

Re:Headlight Aiming

I too would like to see that guide.

With my old truck, I used to tire of people flashing their brights at me when I was on low beam. I used a much less scientific method of parking the truck about 4 or 5 feet from a wall and illuminate the wall with the headlights. Mark the centroid of the beams. Then lower the beams around a half inch and try it for a few days and re-adjust if necessary (quarter inch or so either way...).

I've done this a few times, and you may find yourself enlightened on the current light assy alignment (sorry for the pun). Yes, the vehicle should be level, and wall vertical.

Re:Headlight Aiming

Found a link that describes a headlight alignment method:

http://www.diynet.com/DIY/article/0,2058,2984,00.html

I am going to give this a try and see if it makes my alignment any better. Like HC said, I will then see if I am getting flashed by oncoming traffic.

Don't know why the link doesn't work, but the url is just as it appears in my previous post.

Re:Headlight Aiming

Where are the screws to adjust the headlights? I've taken mine to the dealer 3 times to have them align it and they still haven't done it. >

Re:Headlight Aiming

Your Dodge Manual had a very good section on Headlight aiming. It will work on your lifted truck.
Bruce
