Got my gauges installed
I had the dealer put my gauges in today and they look great. I was really surprised at what a neat and tidey job they did. ;D

I see now that I was shutting it down way to early. I didnt figure the turbo would get that hot running around town with a light foot but it sure does! Just going home for lunch today running about 35 MPH for 6 blocks and then a half a block on a side street at about 15 MPH when I pulled in the drive the temp was about 600, it took a good 2 min to cool down to about 325. I never waited that long before if I was just running around town at low speeds. I would usually wait about 30 seconds and then shut it down. [undecided] [undecided]

The guage is installed pre turbo and if I remember correctly the max I should let it go is about 1250 correct?

Keith

Re:Got my gauges installed
That is correct on the 1250. What kind of gauges did they throw in there? I was filling up the other day, and some guy pulled up w/ a nice new F250 crew cab and just shut it right off and jumped out... he kept looking over the pump at my gauges but never said anything... ;D

Tony

Re:Got my gauges installed
Thanks!
They put the isspro gauges in, not sure of the model numbers but the pyro has a black face with green, yellow and red indicators on the dial. The boost is just a black face with white numbers and white needle. The only thing I didnt like was when they put them in the pillar mount they werent level, both gauges were tilted off to the side. I fixed that right away though ;D

Wheels, I have the same year/configuration you do except mine's the HO/6spd -- I won't run more than 500*F "cruising" at 40 mph, and then coasting to a stop will lower those temps to 400*F or below -- "wait-time" to 300*F isn't anymore than 20 seconds or so, unless I've been pulling up a steep hill or with a load.

I run the BHAF and a 4 inch exhaust, along with an Edge and some other things -- that may be the difference -- those cool-down temps & times seem a shade high -- but then maybe I've "forgotten" what it's like at stock.

GP

Re:Got my gauges installed
Gear Poet;
I think my temps were so high because I took it home for lunch right after the dealer brought it back to me and it was still hot from the dealer bringing it back to me. I did just a little testing tonight after I got off work and found that here in town running anywhere from 35-45 MPH with a fairly heavy foot it is running around 500-600 until I hit a stop light, it drops like a rock when I stop to around 400, sitting at a light with it in gear it stays right around 400. If I take it out of gear it will drop to around 300 within about 1 minute. I took it out on the highway and running about 65-70 MPH Im seeing anywhere from 600-800. I started from a dead stop going up a slight hill with it to the floor untill I hit 85 MPH I was seeing about 1275-1300. I tried it several times and never got above 1275-1300. Once it shifted into OD the boost went down and the pyro started dropping off. I was really surprised that it would get that hot with no load on it.
The max boost I am seeing is somewhere around 18-19 Lbs, Does that sound about right for a stocker?

Re:Got my gauges installed
I took it out and took notice of the gauges this time. Running 80 MPH unloaded in OD, the pyro is 800 and the boost is running about 9-10 Lbs. I am still seeing 1275-1300 on the pyro and 18-19 boost from a dead stop up to 80 or so. The pyro drops off as soon as it shifts into OD as does the boost. If I take it out of OD running 65 and really get on it I will see the boost hit 18-19 Lbs and the pyro tops out at 1100 and then they both drop once I hit 3400 RPM. I never thought a stock engine would see these temps. Im sure glad that I got the guages installed. Got the bug now, now I need the fuel pressure, transmission temp, rear end temp and of course the power comp box that the dealer will install with a signed statement saying DC will not void my warranty because of the box!!

Keith

Re:Got my gauges installed
That's way high on EGTs. Even w/ my Comp and towing the trailer, I don't hit over 1150. I have a K&N in the stock air box. Boost is right on! ;D

Tony

Re:Got my gauges installed
Im thinking I will put a BHAF on it this next week and see if that drops the temp any. I would really hate to see what the temps were hauling my camper with the boat behind it!

Some of the hills on I70 down around Junction City are fairly steep hills that are about a mile long. I pulled up those hills right at 60-65 MPH with it flat on the floor so Im sure the temps were really getting up there.

What kind of drops in temp have you seen by adding the BHAF?

Keith

Re:Got my gauges installed
I saw about a 100*F reduction. You may want to consider the Scotty II -- more expensive, but probably worth it, especially with those EGT's. If you go with the BHAF, be sure to construct a heat sheild between the turbo/exhaust and the filter, take off the plastic insert in your fender air cowl, and run something like a four inch aluminum dryer hose from the front grill around the battery to your filter -- to spill some cold air over it at speed. You may want to consider opening up the exhaust a little -- get rid of that stock muffler -- although this may have less of an effect on the EGT's.
Are you up high? Elevations in the thousands of feet? If so, that's affecting your EGT's in a big way. My EGT's in Maine are always 150-200*F lower than in Nevada, with West Virginia somewhere in-between. Nothing you can do but ease up a little and do the mods.

Wheels,

Is your pyro pre or post turbo?

All,

I know this has been covered before, but which location (pre or post) is best? Does it REALLY matter? What is the temp difference between the two locations?

Tim (the total newbie) Way
Albuquerque, NM

Re:Got my gauges installed
Wheels sounds like you have the same guages as I do. They work great. I want to get a better looking boost guage. It is kinda dull black and white.
But they work great.
Aaron

Re:Got my gauges installed
B1;
The pryo is installed pre turbo. right in the top of the exhaust manifold. If my memory serves me correctly, the difference between pre turbo and post turbo at WOT it about 300 degrees. With the post turbo being lower due to the turbo absorbing some of the heat. I may be wrong on this so maybe someone else more knowledgable can chime in here.

dodgeman;
I was noticing that last night, the boost gauge is just a little bland. I really like the looks of the pyro at night but the boost needs some color or something.

Keith
