Fuel sending unit replacement

To replace sending unit by tipping bed do you have to relieve fuel pressure from the system? Do ypu need to buy a new locking nut for the module? If there is any other tricks I would appreciate any help.

I did mine, no pressure to relieve, used same lock nut, and a large strap wrench.

it was pretty easy with a nearly empty tank to take the 2 nuts off and lower the tank. The lines you push together, squeeze the little clips and pull apart. I used a straight screwdriver and hammer to loosen the big retainer nut. When going back together the new rubber gasket was kinda tricky to get all in and down but not really too bad.

Nearly empty tank is the key, hard part is getting it nearly empty without running out when the gauge doesn't work.
That's why I prefer tilting the bed.
If you dont have the means to tilt the bed use two racheting type nylon load straps to raise and lower the tank.

I think it is easier to tilt or lift the bed. If you use a hammer and screwdriver for the retainer collar ring, be carefull it's plastic. when old it gets brittle. Better to use strap or chain wrench if available. When complete, make sure the wire connector is locked in place, if it broke comming apart, use zip ties to secure in place. Good luck

If you can get hold of a motorcycle jack and a couple of tie downs....works great even with fuel in it.

Now that's using the ole noggin. I'll remember that when I do mine here in the spring (gonna wait for warmer weather). Mine does not work either but at least the warning light works to tell me I have 10 gallons of fuel left.

If you find a little green ball in your tqank throw it out and you won't need to replace the sending unit. The geen ball is an anti rollover spilling device that Dodge came up with. Mine went into the tank and hung up the sending unit.
