Sensor on sending unit replacement?

Anything in particular I need to know? I am going to take the bolt on the bed loose and slide it over enough to get to the sending unit. Where exactly is this sensor located? Any connectors I need or anything aside from the sensor that I need to buy to complete this swap so my fuel gauge will actually work again? Thanks guys.

It is the whole sending unit that is replaced. I did it, and I dropped my tank. I think that is easier than movong the bed.
I was going to keep the old one to fix it, but figured if I have to go through the trouble again, might as well put in a new one.
Ensure the big ring cap is tightened with a strap wrench-it is hard to get tight by hand with the new gasket.
When you fill up, don't set the nozzle full bore. I think this causes premature failure with the sending units.

Well my fuel guage quit working so I assume it is just the sensor, not the whole sending unit. Is it the sensor or the sending unit?

The sending unit is the part you replace. It is screwed to the side of the "fuel tank module".

Just what I said- 'the (whole) sending unit.'

Ok so what sensor are they talking about. It is $59 for the sensor they quoted me. Does that sound right or how much is the sending unit? Anyone have a microfische?

No idea what they could be trying to sell you for $59, probably some emissions sensor for a gasser.

Sorry, no other information to add.

I think I paid 30. something. Call Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID and ask for the fuel sending unit.

Thanks Marine. Unfortunately I am in Texas. Shouldn't the Dodge house have this part for the same price? I will call and ask for the fuel sending unit.

For $55 I got what was called a fuel leveling unit. It is for a 35 gallon tank which mine only requires 25 from e-light so does it matter if it is a different size tank? It has a float, a rubber/plastic black ring and some brown wire. Sound right?

I replaced mine at about 100,000 miles and it has not caused a problem since. I fuel full bore with the big truck hose wide open most of the time. The pressure can not get near the gage sending unit. It is inside the pickup cannistor and the fill is outside of it. It now has 357,000 on it so it can't be too distructive.

You can get it two ways. YOu can purchase the whole pickup assembly.... expensive or just replace the sender and float.
