For a 96 3500 2wd. All the places I called needed the GVW and whether it has rear abs or 4 wheel abs. The truck has a 10500kg GVW and just rear abs the pads are regular price like $48 but the rotors are with the hubs and cost $260 a piece. Is it possible to change just the rotor and not the hub as well? Is there a cheaper way to replace the rotors? I've never had the front end of these trucks apart so I don't know how they are

 

Should be able to beat the wheel studs out and get the rotors off.... but dnt damage the studs

 

U have to remove the hub before u do anything

 

2wd rotors are much more expensive than 4wd because the bearings aren't removable.
But at least 2wd bearings can be repacked and last longer than the "lubed for life" 4wd hubs.

 

so I should just buy the rotors for $260? what pads should I use on them, middle line?

 

It depends on your uses. If you tow, get the HD pads. If not, run premium or SUV/Truck pads.

 

i just replaced my rotors and worn out hub. $600 for both hubs and $100 for both rotors and $50 for pads ouch.. 98, 4wd, 3500, 4wheel abs

 

Rotors and pads for me. $135 apiece for NAPA drilled/slotted rotors and $70 for HD pads....97 4wd 3500 rear ABS. I know the hubs are expensive....and some day they are next...ouueouch.

about how long do these rotors and pads last? the reason I ask is because I buy the cheaper stuff and get about a year and a half out of the pads

Good quality rotors will last a long time as long as you don't let the pads wear down to metal.
My stock rotors barely made it to 50k, their Brembo replacements have close to 200k and look brand new.
I usually get about 50-75k out of a set of Hawk pads.
