2001 pads and rotors in Canada

My truck needs another set of front pads but i think this time i will be replacing the rotors as well.

I used a set for Dodge pads the first time as the price was pretty good($45.00). The second set of pads I couldnt get ahold of my buddy at the dealer so I ended up purchasing a set of Raybesto pads for a grand total of $121.00 . I am finding that the inner pads are wearing out before the outer pads by about 3to1 so its time for a new set of rotors.

Should I go with dealer items or does someone know if one of the after market suppliers makes a good set that would outlast the stock stuff.

Thanks in advance

Jason

If one side is wearing before the other you need to be looking at calipers on that truck.

Are the rotors damaged, too thin? No reason to change them if not. If they are warped or "groovy" you could probably turn them.

Chris

Hello Stamey, how goes the battle my friend? ;D

The inside of the rotor is worn down pretty good so it's more than likely i unable to absorb any kind of heat compared to the outside causing it to wear the inside pad much quicker. The slides etc on the calipers are free so I dont think that is an issue. I do alot of in town driving so my brakes get a fair amount of use and there is always about 1000 lbs of crap in the back of my truck as well.

I will probably see if I can get a set of performance friction Z carbon mettalic pads for it, that is if I can find a place up here that sells them.

Jason

Sorry, I didn't see your post until now. My slides were free and I had changed the pads only 8K before I found out that the pistons in the calipers were sticking. Since the slides were free, the stuck pistons slipped by me.
In my case, it wore the outside pad more than the inside.

You would be wise to check out the calipers very closely.

Chris

On pre '98 trucks, brake parts can be had cheaper by buying early '90s Chev parts instaed - except for rotors. Same brakes with a better price. Don't know if it works on post '98 trucks.

ScubaSteve - EGR makes a real nice brake pad - carbon kevlar. Purchased both pads and rotors for my truck. Stops much better than stock and are supposed to run cooler (last longer) that other pad comps. Pads and rotors are brand new so still to early to comment on longevity....
