front brakes locking at low speed

so i noticed this about 2 weeks ago. nothing in particular i can think of that would cause this issue. havent changed anything or whatever. the deal is, when the truck has been sitting, even a few minutes, if im just idling aronud and go to push in the brake just a hair the freakin wheels want to lock up! i think its the front right one. it started off as a little stumble but when i left the car wash today it just locked down and made the skidding/squealing noise. but as soon as i get off the brake its fine. dosent appear to be any dragging or anything.

so whats the deal? its like their super super super sensetive at low speeds. driving around, even comming to a stop i dont have that issue.

My 3500 did this for about a day, I was driving out of a parking lot and someone stopped in front of me, and I hit the brake and the rear axle completely locked, kinda worried me. It did it once or twice more that day, and after that it was fine, hasn't happened again.

I'm guessing it was because my truck had sat for quite a while while I was working on my KDP. I worked on it a little bit each evening for a week lol.

Has your truck been sitting for a while?

well, my bike gets taken to work most of the time, but here within those 2 weeks teh truck has been my main mode of transportation cuz the weather has been either nasty, or ive been sicker than a dog. so the answer is..not really. and it even locked up after i had driven about 2-3 mi, parked at the car-wash to wash, and that was only 30 min tops.

its weird, like the SLIGHTEST pressure and it does it. ive experienced soft or dead brake pedal but never when i had "too much" brake. and its a rather sharp motion if that makes any sense. its like i tap on it a bit and there is no "getting to that point". all is fine then all the sudden WHAM it locks up.

it's your rear brakes, very common.

try adjusting your rear brakes and keep them adjusted, it helps.

Check also for brake lining contamination.

Mine would do it every morning if it was damp or when it rained. Very sensitive at low speeds. Drove me nuts. I changed to the one ton wheel cylinders Napa 4637337 has not happened since.

Mine quit doing that after I adjusted the rears up where they should have been. I usually back in my driveway and now use my parking brake to stop. Have not had any trouble since I started doing that. I took them up manually the first time and they were waaaay loose.

Drum brake adjuster... basically, pull the plug on the back of the plate, and use some tool to rotate the starwheel in there, the wheel should just turn freely - any more tightening should cause the brakes to drag. The rear will need to be lifted for this (but wheels don't come off).

OR... try this (how I do it): find a safe, clear place, where you can drive forward and back a number of times. Go to about 10-15 km/h (6-10 mph), hit neutral, and stop with the parking brake. Do the same in reverse. Repeat about 10 times each way.

When you service the rear brakes (replace linings, etc.) make sure you pull apart the adjuster, clean it up, and lubricate everything in it. This will make sure it continues to work well in the future.
