Lightbulb Dead gauges

Drove the truck all afternoon. After our last stop, the truck started fine, but NO gauges. The engine light, fuel light, ABS, brake and airbag lights were all on. In place of the odometer it said "no buS"
After about 20 miles, all the gauges came to life but the "idiot" lights were still on.
Checked all the fuses. None blown.
Coincidence or not, the gauges came on the same time I flipped the turn signal.
Stumped!

The dash gauges were all back lit, cig lighter worked, access power worked, radio worked.

Started pulling fuses. NONE were blown, but I put a new fuse in the "engine" slot (#13?). The "engine" light went out. Yes, I had the truck running.
Now everything seems to be working ok except my "ABS" light is on as is my "brake" light. When I release the parking, the "brake" light stays on.
Bad ground on the back of the fuse block???
STUMPED.

Done some more research. ABS and BRAKE dash lights are controlled by the Controller Antilock Brake (CAB).
I there a way to test this unit?
ANYONE? Bueller?

I seem to remember a loose multi-plug under the steering column to be the culpret in a few of the "No Bus" incidents.

Do you have brake lights when you step on brake pedal? Check fuse 3 in juction box left side dash and fuse 11 in the PDC

Yep, got brake lights. Everything is working normally. I disconnected the batteries and cleared the codes. Started it back up and got the 1698 code back. ABS and BRAKE warning lights are on.

Shovel,
was the loose plug inside the column or along side under the dash?

Check the exposed part of the harness under the dash near the steering column.... there should be a multi-plug, make sure it's connected tightly.

Might be the 'fix' ..... might not.
It has worked for some.

Checked all elec plugs. Disconnected batteries for a bout 20 minutes. When I started the truck, the ABS light stayed on but went off once I started moving.
I hate gremlins!

So, for anyone interested:

After some research and a little dumb luck, I think I figured it out.
The CAB (controller ABS brake) unit controls the ABS light and the BRAKE light on the dash. There must have been something causing a short or erroneous reading to/in the CAB that made the CAB not deliver any input to the dash and/or PCM.
Only suspecting this because: Yesterday, I kept getting error codes from my elec trailer brake controller with nothing hooked up. It was intermittent as though a wire was flapping in the breeze. The 4-flat plag was doing just that. Pulled the cover off the 4-flat and there was LOTS of corrosion. Enough to cause a short and/or disconnected wire.
Once that was taken care of, no more error codes on the brake controller and no more ABS or BRAKE light illuminated on the dash.

Let's keep the fingers crossed.
