Common location for PS leak?
I've put it off long enough, been noticing a few small to medium drip puddles under the front end for a while now. Figured it was the puke bottle, the whole front end is covered in crud, so I let it go for a while. Last week while running home I got that horrible power steering pump squaller (like a cold 10* morning start), hit the brakes and the pedal stuttered to the floor. First thought was vacumm pump took a dump. But found the PS pump was dry, quick filled it back up and worked out the air and all is well again. Except the leak.
Is there a common failure location to look for before I get too far into degreasing and cleaning everything up to fix it?

Twice on my 01 it turned out to be the bolts on the top cap of the steering gearbox. The first time 3 of the 4 were finger loose. The second time a couple of them were backed out about 1/4 of the way. Might be worth a check.
I just went through this as well.. about a month ago if that long and after checking the blots on top - which were tight- and then snuging the center bolt (which I would leave to last option) I but some lucas stop leak in it and ... it stopped leaking..
while I was in there messing around I relocated the over flow bottle and cleaned everything up. I know the overflow bottle was causing a mess. The power steering leak was relativley new.
Come to think about it I never had any trouble until I had my front end alignment done. .... HHMMNNNNnn
