vacuum leak somwhere...common spots?

so i am lacking vacuum assist with the brakes when moving around slowly in parking lots...must be a vacuum leak somewhere...im looking to find out where all the hoses are to the vacuum system...there's main one coming out the vacuum pump to under the firewall...there must be some hoses for the 4x4 engagement....what else??? i just wanna go down the list and check the hoses...what about my booster assist under the firewall?

sincerely,

Andrew

I think the two most common problems with the vacuum are top of the transfer case and the front axle vacuum disconnect. On my 96' I originally used small zip ties at every junction. This helped but the real culprit was the transfer case. I bought new hose that attached to the TC. The new vacuum line was probably 5" length. From the new vacuum line I bought extensions normally found in the HELP section of the autoparts store. At the extension I plugged in the original vacuum line. I might've cut off the original 1/2" of vacuum line on all 4 lines. My Jeep developed problems with the vacuum disconnect at the front axle. Try checking these two things.

If you have cruise control...the connection to the servo or servo istself under the driver side battery often is a leaker due to battery acid dripping on it.

found something odd...i traced the line (there's only one) from the top of the transfer case....it goes up alongside my down pipe and reached a lil "t"..the other end of the metal "t" is open and no hose continues...like someone disconnected it...i dont however see the other end dangling anywhere...what could this be?

by the way guys i have a leak from the top of my steering gear box....could this affect my brakes???...basically when im in parking lots i loose vacuum assist and the dash brake warnign light comes on...when i get going again or give some rpms it goes out

Unless a 95 is a lot different than a 97, I think you're looking at the wrong thing. On the top of the T-case on the drivers side there should be 4 lines, on the back of the front axle towards the passenger side is your CAD and should have 2 lines there.

Yes, all 4 at the TC are vacuum. Two of which connect to the front axle. Whatever line you found couldv'e been a vent? Going by memory my 96' had one line going to the TC. The 2nd TC line went to the front axle. The 3rd TC line was the return from the front axle. The 4th TC line went to metered diaphram thingy. Try disconnecting and plugging the line feeding the TC. I think you'll find the feed line at the junction on the firewall. At the junction is the vacuum, TC feed line and Hvac feed line. This should help eliminate one system at a time. My money is on the TC leaking.

excellent will do...a leak at the TC would affect the vacuum assist to my brakes?
