Common Coolant Leak?
Last night coming home from work I ran the heater in the truck and when I got home I plugged in my block heater on a timer set for 3 hours prior to start. I went to start the truck this morning (22 degrees F) and notice coolant had leaked out over night (maybe 8-12 oz.) on the passengers side. I poked around and found that it was coming from what appears to be the heater core hose near the rear of the engine on the passengers side right next to the turbo. 2 black pipes are joined together by a 3 inch long rubber hose covered by aluminum? and held together by 2 hose clamps. I called the local dealer and was told that this has been a very common issue lately (I'm guessing because its been cold enough to have to run the heater now) and that from the factory the hose clamps are not tight enough. I stopped by the dealer to see if we were talking about the same area and I just so happened to run into the mechanic who has worked on my truck in the past and he told to also tighten the 3/8" drive head bolts (3 total) located above the exhaust manifold because those are also loose from the factory (2-3 threads tight
). Anyways I just thought I would pass on the info and to see if anyone else has had this issue. I did a search before posting and found nothing.

I was on my way to work yesterday and turned my heater on and guess what no heat took it directly to my shop and it was bone dry, my leak is coming from the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side ???? i think it might be the water pump but this thread is makin me wonder

I think I may have the same leak. I just got my truck back from dealer after putting an engine in it. 20 miles home. I have made a couple 5 mile trips over the weekend. Tonight I hauled the trash off about 17 miles round trip. Got a chill went to turn the heat on and no heat. I was only a half mile from the house. Pulled in driveway popped hood and had steam at rear of engine drivers side it seemed. Shut it off and found the heater hoses wet going to firewall. This truck has squeeze clamps so there is no tightening them. It's dark and everything is slimy. I am going to fill it and pressure check tommorow when I get home. I also want to check the other hose pictured. Hopefully it will not have to go back to dealer again.
My hose is also leaking. Took it to the dealer for the third time to fix, and they said it was cracked (this is a 06) and they had to order the little hose. Can you believe that a major dealership in San Diego wouldn't have it in stock? Idiots!
Just got back from the FOURTH trip to this idiotic dealership in National City.
Now they ordered the wrong hose, will this ever end? Will my patience give out before they get it right? Tune in tomorrow for the latest screw up!
