Unhappy Bucking?? under moderate braking?

Hi guys,

I installed new rotors(slotted) and pads and upgraded my rear wheel cylinders. Now under light braking the truck is smooth, under extreme braking the truck is smooth, but under moderate braking the truck seems to buck or surge?? Any ideas would be great. I have been doing brakes and auto stuff for long before I could drive, so this is not my first try. I am perplexed!!

Well, since you put new rotors on the front, it pretty much eliminates them as the culprit. I suspect that your "bucking or surging" is caused by the rear drums. Since you got the rear brakes functioning better you are feeling the drums being out of round. The "cure" would be to either turn the drums or replace them.

bUCKING...

I just had the same issue - new rotors / pads / rears and had nasty bucking with moderate braking after about 1 month - turns out my CALIPER on the pass. side went south and trashed the rotor; My Driver side caliper was showing the signs of starting the same thing -

- you might want to check them out!

Good luck, let me know what you find!

OOps!

....sorry, I though you had done only the rotors and pads.....

Did you upgrade with the larger wheel cylinders on the rears? I have heard of a TSB that recommends installing these to put more of the braking load to the rear....

Yes, I did the large cylinder upgrade, between the slotted rotors and the wheel cylinders!! Wow, I can stop this thing on a dime and put a passenger through the windshield if I so desire!!
