98 12v what to look for???
If i where looking for a tuck like that i would check for blow by at the brethers the rocker covers prob leak feel for cluch slip check the diffs for leaks same as trans and transfer i would also check for any power up grades becuse of the miles and if possble find out how the truck was used all its life was it worked hard or ez life towin a camper around?
in additon to existing thread:
--Front ends on 4wd are troublesome. Check ball-joints, trac-bar. Replace as needed.
--Check condition of front & rear diffs, lube properties, driveshafts, etc.
--Check doors & under bed for lower-level rust areas.
--Check to see if KDP has been tabbed (just do it).
--Check condition of wallet - insure that you have 20% reserve for unexpected repairs.
220k isn't much on the engine, it's not bad on the truck either depending upon use. I had a South Bend clutch installed at 290k and it was $665 including labor. Otherwise; a radiator, steering box, upper & lower ball joints, pitman arm & idler, starter, rear drum rotors & front disk rotors have been the major expendatures. Note that things like brake rotors are much more expensive on these trucks than what you may be used to.

Mine is an 01, but similar mileage, I changed starter, brake pads, rear abs sensor and the lift pump, had my ball joints checked and I have put about 14,000 good miles with no problems. Just added 255/85 tires and they seemed to help the traction and gearing.
