Has anyone considered putting 2012 steering box and upgraded t style steering on a 2nd gen? Ive been measuring and it looks doable. Any help is welcome.

My buddy has the 2009+ style Borgeson box on his.... along with brace and HD steering. We re-installed it over Christmas.

was the 2009 plug & play?

what about PSC components? buddy did a truck years back, says PSC is way to go, but they are $$

PSC Motorsports - Offroad, Circle Track, Hot Rod, Street Trucks

my 2001 has 172k, should I do the pump & new hoses also, or just the box?

No idea about other boxes. IMO, try to cut through the sales pitches and figure out what box you're actually getting.

It was plug &play from Borgeson... because they modify it (mounting spacers, input spline adapter, smaller sector shaft to re-use 2ndgen pitman).

Borg doesn't offer this setup anymore. They do offer this one:
Borgeson Universal Company :: Dodge Truck 1979-08 :: Dodge Ram Truck Steering Boxes :: 2003-2008 Borgeson New 6-Bolt "Dodge Box"

Perhaps it, and other boxes can fit too, with a little work.

EDIT: If you wreck your hoses trying to take them off, get new ones. I few pumps I've had trouble with turned out fine after bleeding/priming the ps system.

While I cant say anything about that steering box as I used a Redhead box that I liked had no issues with it. I did convert to the "T" type steering using the updated parts from a third gen. On my 01 it was bolt on easy peasy. Only two things came into play one was the steering stabilizer as the old one didn't work due to the different mounting style. And secondly I had to trim the tie rod bolts down as they rubbed the inside of the stock wheels on sharp turns. There was plenty of meat on the bolts to grind them down a bit so no problem with that.
If you do a search on here, TDR or Cummins Forum you should find some threads about the steering type swap. I seem to recall that the 00-02 years the upgrade was just a bolt on but am thinking previous years might have to do a little reaming however I cant remember the years that needed reaming may have been older than 99's

looks like PSC is now the main player for the older trucks.
the only'est problem i see is the PSC website says their box is so big, that it spaces out an inch from the frame, so the cheap cross frame braces off Ebay will have the hole in the wrong spot.

NOTE Due to the increased overall size of the BIG BORE XD steering gear spacers are included in the kit to space the gear box off the frame. There is a 1" difference from the OEM steering gear. We suggest trimming the draglink and tierod at pitman arm 1/2" to clear for alignment.

NOTE. This kit only fits the 94-99 Models, For the 00-02 Models order Use Moog Part # ES3497 Tie rod end and Trim 1/2-3/4" for alignment.

Features

BIG BORE 85mm piston from the factory 80MM for more turning force

Quicker ratio 3.5 turns lock to lock from the factory 3.75 turns lock to lock

XD sector shaft & bearing 45mm from the factory 32mm eliminates side to side flex and seal failure. No need for brace anymore!

Notes

Pitman arm included
Will not fit any aftermarket sector shaft braces on the market

This is what I mean about what box vs who's selling it. Several vendors sell that larger box with the 6-bolt sector shaft cover...
