285/75's on stock steel wheels

As stated in the title, my truck has the factory 16" steel wheels with the chrome trim on them. Will 285/75's fit ok? wasn't sure how wide the wheels are and if the back spacing works out ok. I don't think my tires I have now are gonna make it thru the winter, and I don't have the money for new rims and tires yet.

I'm on my third (or is it the 4th) set on my factory wheels and have never had a problem. Don't forget that your speedo will be off and you will be going faster than it shows.

285's will be the biggest you will want to go on the stock 6.5" steel wheels.

Have 285's on mine and they work just fine - and look a lot better than the stock 245's.

does the manufacturer recommend a 6.5" wheel for the 285s? I ran some 285s on the stock 8" wheels way back, and they wore like crap. you have to adjust the tire pressure way down in the rear to try to keep the tread flat on the ground. handling is compromised because the sidewalls are rolled in so far, made mine feel like it was slipping sideways in turns as the tire rolled around. and to top it off, towing sucked because the tires allowed a bunch of sway.
I'd say get a cheap set of tires to hold you til spring, then spend your money on a proper combo of wheels/tires

The tire manufacturer does - and thats good enough for me. FWIW, these tires drive and ride MUCH MUCH better than the E rated 245's that they replaced.

My truck is unloaded 98% of the time and I dont tow anything.

I first had a set of 285/75 on stock 6.5 wheels, they ran fine, they sure looked like they needed wider wheels so on the next set I stepped up to 8 in wide weld racing wheels which ran the 285/75 much better, you can get by with the stock 6.5 though. I did experience minor rubbing in tight turns with minor articulation with both sets, but a 1 in leveling kit cured it.
I dont see any information in your signature which could help assist in your particular application next time.

Dont even bother with hammer on/stick on wheel weights...

Get some balancing beads:

WRTN, we were actually discussing the chrome plated steel wheels not the aluminums (which are 8" wide).
