I don't know about the spacing, I have the alloy wheels. I am running 315/75/16, and the only rub I have is very minor on the plastic wheel well liner. Oh, and another thing, I'm 2wd with a leveling spacers in the front.

Backspacing on the alloys is right around 6 inches, steel is probably a little less, maybe around 5 inches?

I think the width on the steel wheel is 6 inches, alloy is 7 inches.

Pretty sure the minimum recommended width for the 315's is 8 inches.

I'd say a 305/75-16 would fit with minimal if any rubbing.

Directed at GaRam, Sorry for the confusion.

(and I already fixed it for him, which is why it isn't showing up anymore)

All alloy wheels 2000 - 2005 are 8" wide.

The stock steel/chromes are only 7" wide. The largest tire available that is rated for the rim is 245. I tried to get into 265 or 285, but I have seen them on the steel rims and the tires balloon so much that you only wear about 75% of the tread in the middle anyway.

I have stock chrome rims - I run 285 10 ply tires on mine. Jury is still out on wear as I only have about 5K mile on them at this time. Nothing funny appears to have started yet so I will wait and see what develops.

As far as wear goes, I ran a set of 245s on the front for 60K miles without rotating them a single time. Yes, they were hard compound 10 ply tires, but they wore evenly across the tread and, since they were not causing problems, I kept them in place and rolling.

My Michelin LTX 285s do not bulge too bad and they really fill up the wheelwell. Since I don't run leveling spacers I was wondering if they would scrub - so far they haven't.

I have had my 315/75/16 mickey thompsons on my 16x7 ARE rims for several years without any problems ( on my 87 ramcharger ), I am thinking about replacing the 285's on my '01 2500 with the 315's. Wife says leave it alone! HMMMM

Red face I Goofed...

The stock steel rims are only 6.5" width.. I remember now that if I had the 7" width rim, I could have gone to much wider tread than I got, which is the 245...

Sorry for the bad info...

I've had great luck with Mothers and Blue Magic. The Blue Magic really makes the chrome shine, the Mothers makes aluminum shine.
