No tire shop worth their weight will mount those tires on stock steel rims. 285s are the very widest, minimum for a 315 is an 8" rim.

I have the 285 75/16 and I think they are about 2" oversize. That makes them about 33", 315 would be about 35".

No pic, but we run that on our 97. I would like to get some wider rims but haven't yet. Even down at 25 psi they held fine. I typically run 42/37. The main reason I want the wider rim is to stiffen the sidewall some. Other then that they are fine.

Tiny knows his stuff.... Three years ago I asked my tire vendor what the widest size I could put on these silly stock wheels was and he too threw the 285 at me.

In June it will be 18x9's and Toyo M/T 35/12.5/18's for this old dog!!!

Dude, remember this is the 2nd Gen forum. I think you misread the question.... He asked about the stock steel wheels on a '99. They are only 6.75" wide. Your '03 has at least 17 x 8's maybe even 17 x 9's.

If you've been a dealer for 20 years I don't have to tell you the kind of liability that goes along with doing something as stupid as putting a 315 on a 16 x 6.75.

Now, on the factory aluminum wheels that became available in '00 or '01 the 315 is not a problem because they are a 16 x 8. That extra 1.25" makes all the difference.

I had that style wheel on my 2000 1500 ext.cab shortbox. I was able to run 315/85R16 Wrangler RTS,s without a problem and it filled the wheelwell nicely and no clearence problems. P.S. does anyone know if any mfr.makes a wider replacement wheel for a '99 dually, would like to run that size again??????

Without lifting the truck, they will probably rub on a hard turn with a compressed spring, like going over a bump. I had 12x16.5's and they rubbed a bit, so do my 285x16's.
