Which would be the better clutch, Mitchell or Southbend
Can anyone give a little advice on which would be the better clutch, Mitchell or Southbend. My stock clutch is on it's last leg, I can't even run my comp on level 1 and not have it slip a little. 75% of my driving is pulling a 8k lb trailer through the Rocky's (which I don't like to get passed), 20% is blowing those little diesel kisses to other trucks that think they are fast, and the last 5% is with the wife which is pretty "well" slow. Thanks for any input

Well, you'll will probobly never slip a Mitchell clutch, and its pretty driver freindly, mine is anyway. It's pricey, but woth it IMO. However, unless your brutal on your clutch, or sled pull, the SB may be a better bet. Just my .02

Later, Rob

It all comes down to how much HP you want it to handle, and how much drivabillity you are willing to give up. Right Rob?

I agree with Rob on this one.
I've been researching clutches for almost a year now and like the fact that the Mitchell is pretty much indescructable but they make an anoying chatter sound when not ingauged and it just drives me nuts. [undecided]
SB makes several different clutches for the Dodge Rams and they seem to have a great following. 8)
It all comes down to what your going to do with the truck.
I myself am done Truck Pulling (gets expensive) so I'm going with the SB clutch.

Man that went out the window really quick, this stuff is really addicting and a whole lot of fun. Mike

Never had a Mitchell, But I've had a couple of South Bends GREAT clutches. Until you get into the 650+ HP relm the South Bend is the way to go!!!! ANd now Peter has even come up with a clutch for the 650+ guys.

If you want to pull the Sleads around get the Mitchell if you want to pull a TT and do alittle power showing off The South Bend is the way to go.

Here are some High HP guy running South bends.... I'll cast my vote for South Bend Clutch. I have no experience with Mitchell, but Peter from SBC got on the phone with me and explained in great detail the procedure, what was probably wrong with mine (he was right - pilot bearing failure), and what I could expect replacing it... I was stuck out of town and it was very reassuring to talk to Peter.

He's very much into R&D... I'd recommend at least giving him a call!

-scott
