...first of all welcome fellow desert rat. On your parts... fill out your signature and we'll be able to see your "make, model, year, etc....". On parts. I would go to the dealer and get the filter and reusable pan gasket. I've had the pan off my truck three or four times and the race car about seven with ZERO leak issues. It's a nice piece.

There are two bands to adjust, the front one is on the drivers side of the case, up above the shift levers, the rear band must be adjusted with the pan off the transmission. You torque these to 72 INCH/lbs and then back them off from there. These specs did differ a bit from year to year. You can find this info in a Factory Service Manual (FSM). Chrysler recommends ATF +3 or +4 depending on the year. The +4 is a synthetic oil. I use it all the time and buy it at NAPA, it is about 3.70 per quart. I use the Valvoline stuff, the part number is VV 346.

If you are just changing the fluid then you'll need about 7 quarts. Get the OEM filter.
The band adjustment procedure is in the tech section.

I believe your truck calls for ATF+3... But I recommend synthetic in stock trannys....actually in all autos, but especially in stock, and especially in the hot southwest!

go with ATF 4+ valvoline was on sale at napa for $3.49 qt

highly recommend patially dropping valve body to drain out more fluid. you can change out aprox. 9qts VS 4qt without dropping VB.

don't follow spec's on haynes manual. there's several links that gives good spec's . both frt and rear forks should have aprox. 1/4in adjustment if you used proper spec's.
