I have been using Chevron Delo 15w-40 in all the CTD's I've owned and it hasn't let me down, and I run my truck hard. I use a WIX filter with it. It's a good oil IMHO.

I would say that the Stratapore filters are demonstrably better than others.

For dino, you can't go wrong with Rotella, Delvac, or Delo. They are ALL CI-4+ rated now, and all are "million mile" oils in a modern CTD.

I blend in a little syn because I use my truck in a horrible way-- lots of cold starts and short trips. I feel the syn helps reduce wear in this type of use profile, because I see faster oil pressure rise and the engine's much happier when cold.

Synthetics ARE better at lubricating the engine, but you'll have to ask yourself if good enough is good enough. CTDs have gone over a million miles on Rotella and Delvac, so is synthetic necessary?

Only you can decide.

I spent a bunch on this truck, so I'm not going to pinch pennies on oil selection. Redline isn't cheap. I have, however, used it now for almost 100K on my Nissan, and the engine is an exceptional condition, even after operation in a lot of temp extremes (-40 to +105). I like the Redline stuff. Your mileage may vary.

I am thinking hard about switching my tc, tranny and rear end to red line and running synthetic in the motor. I always used Rotella in my other CTDs so I will probably just continue with this one. It has 81k on it so I might just go with the synthetic Rotella.

For oil click here. That link will take you to a oil preference poll and you can see what most people here use.

I personally use Chevron Delo 400 and have no complaints about it. I recently could not get Delo 400. I looked around some and found Valvoline Premium Blue. Its regular dino oil for diesel engines that Cummins endorses. So far so good with it, and it may just replace Delo 400 as my regular oil.

As for filters most everyone here at DTR will reccomend Fleetguard Stratapore filters for both your oil and fuel. If you can't get the Stratapore then a normal Fleetguard will do.

Yes, fleetguards can be bought at cummins.

The Mopar filter is just a rebadged fleetguard.
