Vacuum pump question

after starting my truck this morning I had no Power steering or no brakes. This had happen before after a cold night but usually went away after 30 second to a minute. this morning actually drove 30 miles and still no brakes or power steering so i took it to the garage. they examined it and found the shaft on the vacuum pump was sheered off, the guy working on it said he had never seen it happen before. then he gave me the price for the pump, $3000 dollars canadian which is around $2400 US. They then checked and seen it would be covered under the extended warrenty I purchased from dodge, thank god for that, all i had to pay was a $100 dollar deductible.
Has anyone ever seen this problem, I did a search under vacuum pump and it came up empty.

Sorry to say in all my reading here I never heard of a vacuum pump breaking the shaft!

This is the first for me... Be thankful for the extended warranty...

Not sure about the shaft breaking, but you wouldn't have had to spend $2400. Check out the link below for future reference.
