what oil for 5-speed trans?

Hey y'all, looking to change my transmission fluid this weekend, what would be the best oil to use? With all the choices out there, RP, Amsoil, etc, etc, I'm confused as all get out. I've never done it before on my truck, I know that I have neglected it. Also, what is the best way to do it?

Well, with the 5 speed you are pretty much stuck with the factory fill....Castrol Syntorque I believe it is. 6 speed equipped trucks have a little more selection as they have dont have the fibre synchros that the NV4500 has.

The good news is that you can go down to your local chevy dealership and buy the same fluid for about half of what the DC dealer wants.

The Dr. is right, although I use Redline MT90 in mine, works great, not that it matters, I have a 5600 on the bench waiting to go in. Take the bottom bolt out of the PTO cover on the side to drain it, then put RTV on the bolt when you put it back in. Takes 4 quarts if I remember correctly.

Stopped by the local Dodge and Chevy dealerships today, $18/Dodge and $32/Chevy per quart.

The OEM Castrol Syntorq LT 75W-85 GL4 lubricant can be purchased from standardtransmission.com for $54 a gallon plus shipping. They're located in Fort Worth, TX

Rural, thanks for the info, looking to be the best price so far. But I wonder how much shipping is going to be for a gallon of oil? I'll have to look into that. It may just come out to be cheaper from Mopar.
