I use Mopar fluid, and installed a Derale pan, it holds and extra 4 qts and it has a drain plug, and best of all it has round tubes from front to rear for improved cooling.

Castrol atf+4....Full synthetic. any aftermarket pan would be good. Get it with the bung for a trans temp probe too. Kill two birds with one shot. Or 3 in your case.
Just a side note...In my opinion.... a drain plug is not really a good idea in a truck if you plan on wheeling with it....something a rock or stump could catch and cause you a lot of problems. Just my 2cents...Unless you have skid pans

I will never get an aluminum pan under my truck. If you hit it too hard it will shatter instead of dimple. I had one of those on my Chevy p/u with the TH400 and one rock took a chunk about 4"x5" out of the pan. I would only use steel pans, but that is just my opinion.

I'll bet it wasn't a Mag Hytec pan. Those things are beefy. I suspect I could jack the truck up off the ground under the one on the 48RE in our '07 if the trans mounts and case held.

the summit pan you have posted a link to says it is a stock replacement for a 48re, but adds 4 qts for all other chrys trans. could a guy just get a steel pan for a 48re and use it on the 727 or a518? would it be a dealer only item? how much $ do you think???

Sure, but the stock pans don't have a drain. Make sure it is a later model. I forget starting what year they went to a deep pan, around '04 maybe? And install your own drain plug.

Mine is a 2wd highway flyer. The pan is indeed beefy! However, the only thing I have hit is a couple Jackrabbits. Score, Thunderhog 2, Jackrabbits 0!
