Thanks for the help

The best way that I have found to overfill is to take the top PTO cover bolt out and use a suction gun to push the oil in the tranny. The book calls for 3.5 qts of oil, I usually just put an extra quart through the top bolt of the PTO cover.

Mobil 1 5w30 Full Synthetic is the preferred choice of oil to use in the Getrag.

I replaced the drain plug with a close nipple and an elbow, aimed the elbow straight up and poured the stuff in with a small funnel, then capped it with the original drain plug. Worked for me. I'm using Redline MTL, but lots of guys are happy with Mobil 1 5w-30.

Ok thanks guys. Hey got the Mobil 1 and was lookin on the specs. The requirementsI have are from the 1992 service manual. The letters and requirements aren't the same. Do these new numbers on the Mobil 1 container superceed the old 1992 requirements?

Yeah, they probably call for an SG rated oil, the new rating (they're up to SL I think) supersedes the old ratings.

Still living dangerously. It's not really that bad, I've only messed with the fuel pin and star wheel, and the smoke screw is actually turned all the way out. Just spent some $$ redoing the ball joints and control arm bushings, so it'll be another few months.

Hey be real careful. Those temps can get up there pretty fast. I spent a couple of hours tryin to tune the pump while pullin the trailer. I'm trying to ballance the temps with the power.
