used transmission
i have a used truck and it feels like my transmission has a pretty hard shift pattern. The 1-2 is a stiff jerk and 2-3 is only a little softer under mild acceleration. this is compared to another cummins i drove. i'm wondering if there are any telltale signs that show there has been previous transmission mods. i'm dumb with auto tranmsmissions so any info is appreciated.

It's not a hard job.
Adjusting Transmission Bands
Just make sure you have an inch pound torque wrench.
I picked mine up from Sears.

Maybe you could ask the seller if he had a shift kit installed. I second the idea of verifying band adjustment.
The description of a 1-2 shift being harder than the 2-3 shift sounds a tad funny to me. What was the condition of your old fluid like- burnt, debris etc? Or just nice'n clean?

i had the diesel mechanic at the dealership replace my tranny fluid. He said it was fine, not burnt and no water.

Did the mechanic offer any suggestions as to what the prob. is? Did he adjust the bands? Is the prob. better?
