Turbo Noise

? for you all, when pulling 9000lbs or more when in 4th gear around 2300rpm or more my turbo makes a different noise than the light wistle noise that I'm used to when unloaded. Is this noise ok like a hard grouning noise, checked the turbo its got no play in it, I would like to run at 2500rpm when pulling my new unit but the ole cummins dont sound like it likes it very well. I just got a 2003 Coachman Chapparal 5th wheel 8900lbs empty and I pull a 5x10 trailer with my Yamaha Rhino 1,050lbs on it. Will be going to Colorado in less than 4 weeks. If I pull in 5th its to much of a load and I dont want my EGT Temps to get to hot, I also unplug my Power Puck when pulling my 5th wheel because I dont have egt gauge yet . My truck is stock besides the power puck that is always unpluged when pulling because I'm to worried about pulling with it on without gauges I live in central kansas so no hills. I also have 3.55 rear end, anybody know if I was to pull from central kansas to the colorado line with the power puck on if my egt temps would get to hot then I would have the power to pull in 5th. I cant afford gauges right now, spent all my money on my toys and the wife not be happy if I purchased another product.

Dont know about the turbo noise. But tell your wife that gauges are not toys, they are to protect the toy. I went to semi truck wreacking yard to get my first set of gauges, got a Pyro, boost and trans and all hardware for the hook up for $100. Once you have gauges you will never want to drive a truck without them,

03 QC SB full gauges not cat

My 1999 2500 CTD with 100k miles makes a strange turbo noise around 2000 rpm when I'm towing a couple thousand lbs. I asked my friend to ride with me and listen to it and he said it was my wastegate. I noticed that when I heard this noise, the instant mpg on the overhead console computer drops from about 19-20 down to 10. You're probably hearing the wastegate blow-off. I think mine is opening to early, though. If anybody knows how to fix it, I'd like to know too.

I have an automatic so I am not sure what you mean. When I take the truck out of overdrive and put it in 3rd going up a hill like the grapevine the engine sounds like it is about to explode. I think this is normal and these trucks can take it. just my .02
