truck died tonight for a second
I went to the store tonight, was inside for 30 min roughly. I came back out got in my truck and started it up. the truck started up, it reved to 2500 and then died. Tried to start it right away afterwards and no luck. I switched off my XZT and then flipped the key for codes. I got p0500 and p1691. After it read the codes I cranked it over and it fired right up without a problem. The truck ran fine afterwards with the box off, on timing only, and on performance. What would cause it to hiccup like that and right fine the rest of the night?

P0500 is a speed sensor code. I get it if I rev the engine in the winter for warm up. Or if I spin the tires sometimes.
P1691, That might be a companion code that says you have a code. Don't have my list here.

1691 - Injection Pump Controller Calibration Failure
I also experienced this problem. In my experience, it only happened once per month. When I started experiencing the problem, I thought it was the new VP-44 that I just installed (at least the description of 1691 lead me to believe that). I had mwfi send me a new pump under warranty. After installing the replacement pump, I ran into the same issue. At that point, I called quad and explained my issue. They replaced my xzt and I have not had the issue since. I can't say I'm 100% sure it is the xzt, but since I installed my new box - no more problems. I also do not think it's related to certain tunes. On my original box, I tried a few tunes and still experienced the issue.

It's funny that I find this post now. This just happened to me yesterday, I did a search and found Idornak's post about it. I have an '01.5 and I got the 1691 code. I do believe it was somehow caused by my XZT+ box. I still have one of the original test boxes (forget which tune I have loaded). I plan to email Quad about it and hopefully send in my box and see if there is anything they can do.
It was a freaky feeling, I was just going very easy down a back-road and it felt like the truck was on cruise control for a second. I let off the gas and it kept going, I put it into neutral and it revved up to about 2200rpm then died. As I was rolling I tried to restart but it wouldn't. Once I found a safe spot to pull over, I shut off the ignition and it fired right back up without another issue since. Sound familiar at all?

Sounds way too familiar to me. Sounds like you are describing my truck when I was going through this. The 1st time it happened to me, I was cruising 65 in the middle lane on the interstate. The 2nd time, I was stopped at a light in traffic. People were getting ticked behind me until I got her fired again. It's now been 5 months since I installed the replacement xzt with no more issues.

From what I've read the engine idling up like my xzt does in the OFF position make this code happen. And I am guilty of spinning the tires too
Thanks ldornak! I have a healthy pump on my truck and no issues until a few days after putting the XZT on. I will get in touch with quad about this issue and see what they say.
