Truck died at least 8 times tonight!!!!!

Well to say the least I am not to happy. My 03 HO died several times tonight. It always seems to happen when slowing down at low rpms such as exiting the highway or approaching a stop sign.
It happend a few times on vacation and I thought it might be the fuel filter, so I changed it a few days ago w/ a fleetguad from genos. Sometimes it almost dies, it goes down to 500 rms then it kind of catches itsself and revs back up.
To make matters worse my wife says "you should have got a dmax" She is so supportive.
Any ideas or similar experence would be appreciated it only has 5000 miles on it
Thanks,
Jim

Fuel or fuel filter came to mind initially. Is it showing any codes? I think its 3 key-on; key-off's without starting the engine to read the code in the odo section.

Sumthin' ain't right thats for sure. When you get it running for the ninth time, take it to your favorite 5 star buddy, its time for them to excell.

Doesn't sound like a fuel filter to me. Idling puts the least amount of load on a filter. If the filter was clogged, you would have lost top end power first.

Probably an electrical problem. Trip to the dealer. No big deal to fix.

When you get it running again, try taking it out of gear and see if the RPM's go down again. If it does not then your problem has to do with the auto tranny when it loading the engine.
Then take it to the nearest 5 star to get it fixed or replaced.

Try watching the tach as you slow down. Super has a good idea. Pop it out of gear and watch the rpms. May be the stall is still engaged.

I'm having the same problem but it's intermittant, it's happened about 6 times since new (I only have 5000 miles on it) usually when slowing down for speed zones.

It's going to the dealer next Wensday to get it's free oil change & they're going to look at it then, I'll let you know what they find.

It's at the dealer now. I have the pleasure of driving a plymouth breeze for the weekend. At least they gave me a loaner. I'll report back with the findings or lack there of.

Yea let me know what they find out so I can get my dealer pointed in the right direction.

Mine is so intermittant that I don't want to hear them say that they didn't do anything because they couldn't duplicate the problem!!!

Well I called the dealer and the problem is a bad injection pump. They have one ordered, but it's on backorder

Sorry to hear of your problems. Tell your wife she jinxed your truck with all that dura maxipad talk!

Bad injection pump eh? Hope that is really the problem and they're not just aimlessly throwing parts at the problem. Either way, sounds fuel related so hopefully that is it! Good luck.

Re:Truck died at least 8 times tonight!!!!!

Well I took it to the drealer & they couldn't duplicate the problem so I let the mechanic drive my truck home (he lives 40 miles from the dealership) so he could try to duplcate the problem & it worked, it died on him.

The bad news is they don't know why it's doing it & they had it hooked up to a diagnostic computer when it died on him.
They said my fuel pressure is fine so I don't think it's the injection pump.

They know that the lift pump needs to be replaced to solve the rattling problem at idle but at least the problem reappeared with the mechanic driving my truck so it's documented.
This is a problem that if it can't be fixed I'll try the lemon law on to make them replace the truck, it's dangerous to be driving along with an enclosed trailer & lose power steering & brakes going 50 MPH.

Any Ideas on what it could be???

TheMoose,
Could you elaborate a little on the lift pump rattle? Inquiring minds want to know. ???
