trans ?

i was talking with a guy today and we were discussing trans fluid changing, he told me along with the fluid and filter- you needed to change some other part in the trans pan when you do a fluid and filter change. you guys ever hear of this? said it was a valve or switch thing....

usually when doing a tranny service you just change fluid and filter.

Souldn't be anything else to worry about in the trans.

There is a pressure switch and transducer in there, but they only need changing when they fail. I would recommend adjusting the bands while you are in there.

Stupid question. What does adjusting the bands do? I'm sure if you don't it adds wear... correct?

Think of the bands as a brake. They control the rotation of the internal components. If you have a factory service manual, it's a wealth of info on the subject.

The rear band must be adjusted when the pan is off. It's easy to do and should be done at every service. The front band is on the passenger side of the trans and can be done when you get the pan back on.

Many times, the adjustment isn't needed. But you won't know until you check it.

Worn bands can cause a whole slug of shifting issues as well as getting hot and or failing due to extreme slack. I have seen a case ruined by bands that were never adjusted. The band failed at the strut and punched a hole in the case.

I had a buddy that had a copy on CD he made for me.

If you look on Ebay and the like, you can find them. I am not sure if they are "legal" copies however.

LOL, More people should think like that, as it is EXACTLY what should keep you out of trouble.

For Manuals, get them legally thru techauthority.com or my personal favorite, genosgarage.com

Be forewarned, Genos site is difficult to get out of without buying a bunch of stuff you don't need, but the price is so good you figure and extra Fuel filter in the tool box wouldn't hurt.................
