Surging Engine- VP44?

Yesterday my engine started surging. Loping at idle when not under load. Fine at WOT.

Replaced LP today. Have 15 psi but the needle bounces with the lope. Is my IP shot?

Also, can I pull the codes myself on an 01?. Tried the trip odo thing to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

Try turning your keyswitch on-off-on-off-on, that's 3 on's, then look at your odo.

That's what mine was doing when the VP44 died.
Never had any codes, didn't have guages at the time, but LP is still the original.

Contractor,
TRY THE FUEL FILTER! Another member from here recomended it to me and I did it and NO MORE PROBLEMS. It is worth the shot.... It made my week for sure. I put a new lift pump on too and it still did it, then I changed fuel filter and NO MORE PROBLEMS.

Also check my post.... Engine surging
There are some other ideas there too

Best of Luck

Well, I tried a filter and still had the issue. Pulled the codes with a scanner and there were none. A guy that works for me suggested a dirty injector, so I ran a can of BG 44K through it and it runs great now. Thanks for the help.

What is BG 44k I use power service (grey container) in the summer and the white in the winter. I'm having a surging issue as well would like to try this out. Thanks.

It is manufactured by BG products in Kansas. Comes in a 12 oz can for around $ 20. It IMMEDIATELY solved the problem. I still have 1/2 tank of fuel to burn that I treated. Not cheap but good. Napa should carry it, or any performance store, probably not checker or auto zone. I don't know. My assumption is that I had a dirty injector or two. Good Luck.
